ABOUT CBD

What is CBD?

CBD, or Cannabidiol, is one of a group of compounds called cannabinoids that occur naturally in all hemp plant species (Cannabaceae).

CBD is one of a wide range of phyto (plant) cannabinoids that occur naturally in the hemp plant. It closely resembles chemicals naturally produced by the human neurological system (endocannabinoids) in order to maintain homeostasis.

By far the most well-known of the cannabinoids are CBD and THC. THC is the psychoactive component responsible for the marijuana ‘high’. CBD has no psychotropic effects but it does have unique properties and interactions with the human body.

For centuries cannabis plants have been crushed and the extract used in herbal remedies or traditional medicine. However, the resulting product was highly inconsistent and with significant risk of impurities and the presence of illegal THC.

Advances in cannabis processing have allowed us to isolate the CBD and offer a pure, consistent, totally safe and totally legal product with exceptional properties and the ability to support your active lifestyle. Our CBD is not derived from the marijuana plant, but from hemp. It is certified to contain zero THC.

How does CBD work in the body?

The human body has an endocannabinoid system built from a group of lipid proteins, enzymes and receptors that are involved in many physiological processes. Through its modulation of neurotransmitter release, the endocannabinoid system regulates cognition, pain sensation, appetite, memory, sleep, immune function and mood among many other bodily systems.

These effects are largely mediated by the interaction of endocannabinoids and cannabinoid receptors 1 and 2 (CB1 and CB2). The most common analogy is the lock and key, with receptors posing as the lock – securing access – and endocannabinoids as the keys.

It is believed that phytocannabinoids – cannabinoids like CBD which are plant-derived – work in the body by mimicking endocannabinoids, acting on cannabinoid receptors in the same way.

Is high strength CBD better than low?

No, the recommended daily dose is 75mg so it doesn’t matter if you have to take one drop or 10. The best course of action is to buy the most pure, UK certified, UK produced CBD oil and take the correct number of drops.

Will I get high from CBD?

No. CBD is non psychoactive.

DOSING AND HOW TO TAKE CBD

How do I take CBD Oil?

CBPLUS CBD Oil is intended for use as a food supplement for adults at up to 75 mg/day or 0.93 mg/kg body weight/day. It is not intended for consumption by infants, young children, or pregnant or lactating women.

We recommend a starting dose of 1-2 drops twice a day, under the tongue, for one minute. This is the equivalent of 15-30 mg/day when using CBPLUS CBD OIL 15%. Gradually increase the dose if required. Do not exceed 75mg of CBD in a 24 hour period. One 10ml bottle is 200 drops, so we would expect it to last around one month.

What is the best way of taking CBD?

There are two effective ways you can take CBD. Each method has its own unique absorption profile, bioavailability and longevity:

Topically: CBD is applied directly to the skin in a moisturising carrier and absorbed locally. High quality sub-dermal delivery is vital to effectively target the required areas.

Sublingually: Under the tongue for one minute, CBD is absorbed through the sublingual membrane and enters the bloodstream. This is the best way to maximise absorption and avoid losing the CBD as it is rapidly destroyed in the stomach.

Can you overdose on CBD?

There are no recorded cases of CDB overdose. The recommended daily dose is very low compared to research doses – 75mg compared with 2,000mg in trials. There is also no advantage to be gained in taking high doses as low doses will probably be effective and significantly cheaper.

Informed Sport

CBD products are not covered by the Informed Sport programme. This does not reflect on CBD, which is not a restricted substance, but is due to the potential presence of THC. Informed Sport states they cannot guarantee there are no residual levels of THC in a product, below the thresholds of current testing and analysis that could potentially accumulate over a period of time. Although this is highly unlikely, we respect Informed Sport’s position in trying to offer elite athletes full protection from inadvertently recording positive tests.

CBPLUS PRODUCTS

How should I store my CBD?

CBD degrades in UV light so keep your CBPLUS products in their boxes. Normal household temperature and humidity is recommended but not critical as our CBD products are very stable.

Do CBPLUS plus products contain any cannabinoids other than CBD?

No, we only use pure, isolated CBD.

What is the carrier oil in the CBD Oil?

We use high grade organic hemp seed oil, which has significant nutritional properties in its own right and is pleasant and gentle to swallow. Hemp seed oil is well known as a cooking ingredient and contains no cannabinoids of any kind.

Why do you add Vitamin E to CBD Oil?

We add Tocopheryl Acetate to our CBD oil to act as a natural anti-oxidant. It helps preserve the product and maintain the suspension of CBD in the hemp seed oil base. There are also significant benefits to supplementing your diet with vitamin E as it is an antioxidant that helps protect your body from damaging compounds called free radicals. However the quantity of vitamin E in a few drops of our CBD Oil are very small and don’t significantly contribute to a recommended daily dose.

Is Tocopheryl Acetate safe to ingest?

Yes, Tocopheryl Acetate is a specific form of vitamin E that’s in most multi-vitamins, many dietary supplements and added to fortify many common foods such as cornflakes. It is naturally occurring in green leafy vegetables, oils such as sunflower oil, wheat germ oil and corn oil, sunflower seeds, nuts, whole grains and fruits such as kiwi and mango.
